Nation: Italy
Name: Feliciano Vargas
Gender: Male
Appearance of Age: 20
Hair Color: Brunette
Eye Color: Brown
Height: 5'7"
Weight: 140 lbs
Appearance:
Personality: Feliciano is an exuberant individual. He has a tendency to lean towards doing silly things and having fun. Also, he enjoys napping, eating, and flirting with cute girls. Overall, he seems to live a very laid-back, happy life-style.
Prone to tears, Feliciano might seem like a weak, cowardly cry-baby, but in all honesty, it is something of a facade. Yes, it is true that he does cry over silly things, but in a lot of cases, he is simply trying to make himself seem weak and vulnerable to earn sympathy and perhaps avoid fighting. Cowardice is, in fact, a large part of his make-up, but for very good reasons.
Feliciano is bouncy and energetic and doesn't see any social problems with running around naked at random. He likes bright colors and the sunshine and dancing and singing and cooking.
Likes:
+ Pasta
+ Girls
+ Dancing
+ Singing
+ Cooking
+ Bright Colors
+ His brother and all his friends
Dislikes:
- Being yelled at
- Working too hard
- Death
- War
- Being unable to help people he loves
Fears:
~ Large bodies of water
~ The number 3
~ Being touched by snow
~ Lightning
~ Volcanoes
~ Possums
Strengths:
+ Optimism -- Feliciano's optimism can be highly contagious, mainly because he sticks by it so severely. He believes there is always a bright side and that everything in the world will get better if you give it enough time to.
+ Art -- Feliciano can draw literally anything and anyone without too much thought. He can also sculpt, sing, and dance.
+ Cooking -- Pasta is his primary dish, but Feliciano is diverse and excellent in his cooking.
+ Loyalty -- When Feliciano decides to be friends with someone, he sticks to them like glue. There have been times in his past when he has had to betray friends, and it has always hurt him GREATLY to do so.
+ Convincing -- Feliciano is so earnest about everything that he actually finds it very easy to convince people to do things that he wants done. Also, he is good at convincing people that he is feeling things that he really isn't feeling.
Weaknesses:
- Physically -- Feliciano is NOT a fighter, and that's about all that needs to be said.
- Pasta -- it's an easy way to distract the easily distractable Italian.
- Loyalty -- While this was listed as a strength as well, it is also a fault of sorts. This leads Feliciano to a lot of heartbreak and sadness.
- Coward -- It is easy to hurt and pick on Feliciano simply because he is a coward and will do anything to minimize the actual pain.

History:
Allies: Romano, Germany, Japan, United States, Spain, France, Austria, Hungary, United Kingdom
Enemies: The Allies (during WWII), (honestly, everyone in the world has been Allies and Enemies at some point or another? I don't really think Italy has any MODERN enemies, though, as far as I know)

((Alright, I'm a dork. Excuse me while I give you two different RP samples, just because... I felt like writing this first one and it's WAY TOO SAD to be Italy on a normal basis.))
Italy cried a lot. He knew that he did. And he cried over really silly things - like the pasta being gone or the last leaf of autumn falling to the ground or the sun going down when he wanted to stay out in the light longer.
But he wasn't crying now. And he couldn't figure out why.
Because he should be crying. Romano was gone, and Italy would never see his brother again, but still he couldn't squeeze even one tear out.
The funeral was bare. There was no coffin, no body. Just memories trapped inside bits of glass and plastic, sitting on tables and inside books for bored passers-by to peruse. Nobody who was at the funeral cared. Italy wished they would leave. He didn't want their condolences, he wanted to be with people who had actually mattered to his brother - people who actually knew the pain he felt.
Always, Italy had been against war. It was war that had taken the people he loved from him. Like Prussia, after the second World War. Like the Holy Roman Empire. And like Grandpa Rome.
But this wasn't a time of war. And it was the exact opposite that had brought about the demise of his brother - peace.
It was because of the peace that had fallen in their country that Romano had become no longer necessary. It was because everything had calmed down and every Italian felt like just an Italian that Romano disappeared, never to exist again.
And when you thought about it that way - that both war and peace could steal people you love from you without a second thought - well...
...what was safe anymore?
((Alright, now have some normal Italy... XD))
With great trepidation written all over his face, Feliciano leaned over the stove and sprinkled the last of the basil into his tomato sauce. "Aaaah, I don't think that'll be enough!" he exclaimed, almost dramatically, to the empty kitchen around him.
Worrying his bottom lip between his teeth, the Italian spun on the spot to the bowl next to the stove, tossing the salad inside and adding more vegetables to it. "If that sauce doesn't turn out right..." he trailed off, pouting a little, but soon lost himself in the moment of mixing the salad, occasionally turning to the sauce again to stir it so it didn't stick to the bottom. He hummed to himself as he worked and very soon broke out into song, singing at the top of his lungs in the kitchen.
It was the knock on his front door that broke Feliciano out of his cooking-induced euphoria. Jumping a little, he turned and stared in the direction of his door before remembering that he was expecting company.
Suddenly, a bright smile leaped onto his face and he turned off the stove - the smell of basil was strong, despite the fact that he still felt there hadn't been enough - before running to the front door and throwing it open, immediately wrapping his arms around his guest in a great big welcome hug.
"Benvenuto!"

History:
395 AD
Italy became a part of the Western Roman Empire.
476 AD
The end of the Western Roman Empire. Italy splits into 13 different kingdoms instead of being ruled by one person.
Middle Ages (6th to 14th Century)
During this time, Italy fell under the rule of many different peoples. In fact, it was very frequently conquered by new rulers. Most notable among these rulers are the Ostragoths, the Lombards, the Franks, and the Holy Roman Empire.
1348 AD
A third of the population in Italy is killed by the Black Death.
Renaissance (15th to 16th Century)
It is at the beginning of the Renaissance that we find Italy making its real mark in history. Southern Italy was practically in ruins and far poorer than the Northern part. Even the religion of the country had left Italy for France during this time. But in Florence, the renaissance began. It was a new way of thinking and helped to rebuild a lot of Italy. Italy reached the peak of its renaissance in the late 15th century, at which time foreign invasions threw the country into some turmoil.
Early Modern Period
Mostly characterized by foreign domination, this period in Italy's history began with the Italian wars, which managed to include nearly every foreign power at some point or another. After the wars, there was a period of relative peace in Italy, as it fell under the rule of Hapsburg Spain and then Hapsburg Austria.
Unification
The reunification of Italy began around the time that Napoleon fell from power and ended around the time of the Franco-Prussian war in 1871, though there were still a few city-states that refused to join with the unification of Italy for some time. It was hindered greatly by the Hapsburg Austrians. And one of the biggest problems they faced was deciding what sort of country to form under the unification.
March 17, 1861
Italy became a nation-state.
World War I
Italy was a socialist country up until this time. They were on their way to having a liberal democracy when World War I broke out. Italy started out as neutral during this war, though both sides of the war tried to entice Italy to their side. Italy finally agreed to declare war on the Austro-Hungarian empire in exchange for territories - which they lost soon after the end of the war due to a complete economic collapse.
World War II
It is because of Mussolini and fascism that Italy became allied with Germany and Japan in World War II. During the war, Italy conquered Ethiopia and annexed a portion of Albania. However, in 1943, the Allies managed to kick Mussolini out of office by attacking Italy and a new government was set up that sided with the Allies. Italy was the first of the Axis to surrender during the war.
1946-1992
Italy was set up as a Republic. In 1949, Italy became and ally of the United States and a member of what would later become the EU. In the 70s, Italy dealt with political instability, which was characterized by social conflicts and terrorist acts.
1992-Present
From 1992 to 1997, Italy faced a lot of challenges due to the severe corruption of the government and the influence of organized crime. In 1988, a new government was formed, but was lost again in 2000. Currently, the leader of Italy is Silvio Berlusconi.
